Our Information Officer is Jaco van der Linde, registered with the Information Regulator (South Africa) under registration number 2026-064916, and reachable at hallo@pedalforgood.com. They are accountable for how personal information is collected, stored and used across the organisation, and they are the person to write to with any request or concern on this page.
Supporters: names, contact details, giving history and Section 18A records. Raffle entrants: names, contact details and ticket numbers. Programme participants: enrolment details, caregiver consent and assent records, attendance, and anonymised measurement data. Partners and volunteers: contact and agreement records. Website visitors: pages viewed, approximate location and how you reached the site, through the analytics cookies described below, and only if you accept them. We do not buy data, and we collect nothing we do not use.
Consent, for marketing and imagery, always given separately and never bundled with anything else. Contract and legitimate interest, for processing donations, issuing receipts and running the programme. Legal obligation, for tax, Lotteries Act and audit records. For supporters in the EU, the equivalent GDPR bases apply: consent (Article 6(1)(a)), contract (6(1)(b)), legal obligation (6(1)(c)) and legitimate interests (6(1)(f)).
With more care than anything else we hold. Under POPIA, a child’s personal information may only be processed with the prior consent of a competent person, normally a parent or guardian. Every participant has recorded caregiver consent plus their own assent, media consent is a separate decision, participants carry anonymised identification numbers in all analysis, and no image of a young person is published without recorded consent for that specific use.
This site uses cookies. The essential ones make it work and remember the choice you make about the rest. Beyond those we run Google Analytics, so we can see which pages people read.
When you first arrive you will see a short bar with two options, Accept and Decline. Google Analytics does not load until you accept. If you decline it stays switched off, and any Google Analytics cookies already on your device are cleared. You can change your mind whenever you like from the Cookie choices link in the footer, which reopens the same controls.
We used to run a Meta (Facebook) pixel as well. It set a cookie from our server as each page was built, which happened before any banner could ask you first. We switched it off on 21 September 2026. The site now sets no cookie until you choose, apart from two security cookies our payment provider, Paysoft, needs on the Cadence Keepers sign-up page. We currently run no advertising or marketing cookies of any kind. If we ever bring advertising measurement back, it will sit behind the same consent controls as everything else.
Nothing you can read or do on this site depends on accepting anything. What Google Analytics collects goes to Google under their own terms, and we use it only in aggregate, to understand how the site is used.
Email hallo@pedalforgood.com with your request. We will confirm your identity, then respond within a reasonable time and at most within the periods PAIA prescribes. You can ask what we hold, correct it, or ask for deletion; where law requires us to keep something, such as tax records, we will say so plainly. EU supporters have the equivalent GDPR rights, including access, rectification, erasure, restriction and portability, on the same email address.
The same way, and it is one email: hallo@pedalforgood.com. Marketing emails also carry a one-click unsubscribe. Cookie choices are reopened at any time from the Cookie choices link in the footer, and you can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Withdrawing consent for a child’s imagery removes it from future use immediately and from existing materials as far as is practicable, and we will tell you exactly what that means in your case.
Only as long as needed for the purpose it was collected for, or as long as law requires. [RETENTION SCHEDULE to come from legal review.] Hard-copy programme records are stored in locked cabinets at partner schools; electronic records are held on access-restricted systems. Where a service provider stores data outside South Africa, POPIA’s cross-border rules apply and we use providers whose protections meet them.
Our PAIA manual, published under section 51 of the Act, explains what records we hold and how to request access, including the prescribed request form and any fees. [PAIA MANUAL PDF to be linked once written and reviewed.] You can also request it from hallo@pedalforgood.com.
First to our Information Officer at hallo@pedalforgood.com; most concerns are resolved there. If you remain unsatisfied, you may complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa) at complaints.IR@inforegulator.org.za. EU supporters may also complain to their national supervisory authority.
